Wooli’s always great for fishing – but for one week in August each year, it’s busier than any other week in winter and fishing is all anyone talks about.

The annual Wooli Snapper Challenge, now in its 7th year, is an increasingly popular fishing competition that draws anglers from far and wide.

Most holiday houses are booked long in advance, and the owners of holiday units, cabins and caravan parks recommend booking early to secure a place.

Run by local publican Ian Rees of the Wooli Hotel-Motel, the Wooli Snapper Challenge started with just five local anglers in 2007 and has grown to a field of nearly 200 entrants in 2012.

Fishermen keen to do some serious snapper chasing, who would enjoy spending some time in the laid-back coastal town of Wooli – and wouldn’t mind a slice of the attractive prize money on offer! – shouldn’t miss this fishing competition.
